Still We Rise

Still We Rise

I wanted to symbolize the strength of Black people having to endure being kidnapped, abused, raped, chained, sold, whipped, hung, dehumanized and profited off of cotton, like watermelon and fried chicken have long been common stereotypes associated with Black people.

I wanted to paint the cotton plant as a metaphor, even as cotton damages the hands and bloodies the fingers…it ignites the soul, and still we rise!

Medium: Acrylics
